Children’s Theatre Website Design Case Study

Featuring Manhattan Children’s Theatre Edinburgh

Manhattan Children’s Theatre is a theatre company that puts on shows for children aged 10 and under. The shows run in various venues and places throughout the year but the main even is the Edinburgh Fringe each summer.

Laura the director of Manhattan Children Theatre Edinburgh approached us for a new website design for her website for her shows at the Fringe Film Festival in Edinburgh and for her shows throughout Scotland and Europe.

The Website Brief

Laura had previously run the Manhattan Children’s Theatre when she lived and worked in New York, however when she moved to Scotland she had sold the rights to the New York Version of the site and needed a new website created for the Edinburgh branch of her business.

Target Audience

Primary Audience: Children aged 3-10, who are attracted by vibrant colours, interactive elements, and visual storytelling.

Secondary Audience: Parents and guardians looking for family-friendly entertainment, a place to give their children an introduction to theatre and enjoy the Edinburgh Fringe.

Design Requirements

Laura wanted the website to clearly showcase her past and upcoming shows. She wanted the site to be bright, colourful and fun. As well as being easy to use.

Ease of Use: The website had to be intuitive and straightforward, ensuring that visitors of all ages can navigate it easily. Clear navigation and a streamlined user journey were paramount.

Visual Aesthetic: The design should be bright, playful, and inviting. It should capture the imagination of children while also conveying reliability and professionalism to parents.

Responsive Design: The website must be fully responsive, providing an optimal viewing experience across all devices (desktop, tablet, and mobile)

What We Did

When it came to designing the website for Manhatten Children Theatre Edinburgh we aimed to make a bright, playful and engaging website that would showcase past performances by the theatre company while also showcasing any up-and-coming performances.

We used fun fonts, bright colours and child-friendly background designs for each of the pages.

With this being a website that needed regular updates we decided to build the website on the WordPress Platform, meaning that the client could easily update it with pictures from shows and details and offers for future shows as well.

We also made sure the site was fully mobile optimised, linked up with Lauras social media platforms and was fully optimised for SEO.
